Personality:
Jiang Yanli is a soft spoken soul who cares very much for her family. She has a gentle, sweet, and kind disposition. She treats everyone in such a way and dotes especially on her brother and her sect brother. She often serves as the mediator between the two when they are at odds at each other. Yanli often provides the voice of reason for her younger brother and is one of the very few people that is able to get through his foul temperament and harsh nature. She also provides a gentle grounding point for Wei Wuxian, often giving him a focal point and serving as someone who always believes in the good in him.
She expresses her love in cooking, seemingly preferring it over the study of cultivation. Yanli often has soup ready for her Jiang Cheng and Wei Wuxian to have and enjoys making Wei Wuxian's favorite, just the way he likes it. She has shown to have some sort of talent in cultivation, enough for her parents to send her along with Jiang Cheng and Wei Wuxian to Gusu for lessons. However, she shows her true talent in cooking and looking after others.
These skills were shown during the Sunshot Campaign when she stayed in the camps to tend to the wounded and assist in cooking and feeding the fighters of the war. She couldn't sit idly by and not do anything after the destruction of her home and family.
Kindness and gentleness should not ever be mistaken for weak. Especially in the case of Jiang Yanli. She is fiercely protective of her family and leans on courtesy and diplomacy to protect them. One instance of doing so is when Sect Leader Jin tried to trap Jiang Cheng into announcing the engagement between Yanli and Jin Zixuan after it had been called off. To take the pressure off of Jiang Cheng, she speaks on her own behalf and reminds the cultivation world at large that Lotus Pier had undergone a great loss and that it would be ill advised to have a wedding at the time. It soothes their peers and allows them some time. When Wei Wuxian is being insulted, she steps in once more and firmly standing up against Jin Zixun's remarks and even demanding that he apologize to Wei Wuxian for his harsh words.
Yanli truly believes in Wei Wuxian and how, despite his path down demonic cultivation, he is still her sweet younger brother. She believes this with all her heart, even running into battle to hope to turn Wei Wuxian back from his lowest point and putting herself physically in danger, making the ultimate sacrifice, to make sure that he isn't hurt.
